Call for Collaborations: AGENART virtual seminar on Queenship, Art and Material Culture

The AGENART seminar is organized by members of the research project headed by Maria Cruz de Carlos Varona at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid: https://agenart.org/. This research project is focused on the agency and artistic production of women of the Spanish Branch of the Habsburg dynasty during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Aesthetic, political, religious, and social questions are discussed from the perspective of methodologies related to the history of art, history and historical anthropology. Past sessions of this seminar have been focused, amongst others, on Isabel de Valois, Margarita de Austria, Isabel Clara Eugenia, Isabel de Borbón and Mariana de Neoburgo, wives, daughters and/or sisters of kings, who had a great power, influence and independence on their own. In future sessions, we are looking forward expanding our knowledge with the collaboration of experts in other female figures related to the Habsburg dynasty. Therefore, the proposals should be centered on the study of queenship (broadly defined) linked to the Early Modern period, with a particular focus on art and material culture.

This seminar is held online, by video conference, and offers researchers in the field a forum to learn, debate and present their work to a broader audience. The sessions can be held in Spanish, English, French and Italian, and we accept proposals of all kind of experts, but this call is directed particularly at younger researchers studying for a master’s or doctorate degree.

Programm

The seminar will take place once a month from the end of October 2024, to the end of June 2025. The dates of each session will be agreed beforehand with each speaker. Each seminar will last for two hours (comprising a paper of approximately one hour, followed by discussion).
