Please join us for a virtual discussion forum across disciplines – featuring musicology, history and philosophy – hosted by the German Historical Institute (DHI) in Rome.

Alessandro de Arcangelis (University College London), Stefan Berger (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Sabine Meine (Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln), Giampiero Moretti (Università degli Studi di Napoli “L’Orientale”), Sina Steglich (DHI London) and Carolin Krahn (DHI Roma) will discuss texts by August Wilhelm Ambros, Carl Dahlhaus, Friedrich Meinecke, Benedetto Croce, Fausto Torrefranca and Walter Benjamin. Thereby, specific notions of “music (history)” and “history” as reflected in the writings of these authors and their times will be examined together, in order to highlight overarching ideas as well as moments of friction or contradiction from both historical as well as contemporary perspectives.
