Saskia Sassen, Professor of Sociology at Columbia University, is giving a public lecture entitled 'Expulsions: Beyond the Language of Inequality' at University of Fribourg on 22nd April 2015 at 18h15. Saskia Sassen is an internationally renowned scholar on questions of migration and globalisation. In her lecture, she will argue that today's socioeconomic and environmental dislocations cannot be fully understood in the usual terms of poverty and injustice. They are more accurately understood as a type of expulsion – from professional livelihood, from living space, even from the very biosphere that makes life possible.
