Grenzen und Übergänge - Frontières et Passages - Frontiers and Passages Internationale Fachtagung im Bereich der Afrikastudien, Freiburg im Breisgau und Basel 14.-17. Mai 2008

An dieser gemeinsamen Tagung der Vereinigung von Afrikawissenschaften in Deutschland e.V. (VAD) und der Schweizerischen Gesellschaft für Afrikastudien (SGAS/SSEA) tauschen sich während vier Tagen WissenschaflerInnen aus Nord und Süd über aktuelle Entwicklungen und den Stand der For­schung in Afrika aus. Thema der Tagung ist die ökonomische, politische, soziale, und kulturelle Bedeutung von Grenzen und Übergängen. Sie gliedert sich in folgende thematische Blöcke:
- Umweltwandel: Globale Prozesse, lokale Wirkungen
- Zwischen Zeiten und Räumen: Kulturelle Aushandlungsprozesse
- Passagen und Übergänge: Rekonfigurationen des Sozialen
- Barrieren und Grenzen: Transformationen des Politischen

This joint conference of the African Studies Association in Germany (VAD) and the Swiss Society for African Studies (SGAS/SSEA) is organised by the Centre for African Studies Basel and the Arnold-Bergstraesser-Institute in Freiburg im Breisgau. During four days scholars from North and South discuss the current developments in Africa and the state of research on the continent. The theme of the conference is the economic, political, social and cultural significance of frontiers and passages. The sessions are structured in four thematic sections:
Environmental change: global processes, local effects
- Between times and spaces: the negotiation of culture
- Passages and transitions: the re-configuration of the social
- Barriers and frontiers: the transformation of politics
