The Parkes Institute for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish relations at the University of Southampton, UK, is delighted to invite applications for a Visiting Fellowship.

We welcome applications from scholars studying Jewish/non-Jewish relations from any disciplinary perspective in the humanities, including but not limited to anthropology, gender studies, history, literature, art, music, archaeology, and religious studies. The area of chronological and geographical specialisation is open. Special consideration will be given to applications that demonstrate engagement with the Parkes Library and Jewish archives at the University of Southampton. The fellowship is open to scholars at any stage of their career. Applicants must have a doctoral degree in hand and be affiliated with a non-UK institution.

The fellowship is for a minimum of one month and a maximum of two months and should be taken up between October 2024 and May 2025. Please indicate your availability in your application.

For 2024–2025 the total Visiting Fellowship travel and accommodation allowance for the duration of the Fellowship will be:

Europe: up to £2,000
Israel: up to £2,200
Global: up to £2,700
The successful applicant will need to confirm that they have taken out travel insurance (at their own cost). They must confirm their dates of travel at least two months before arrival and apply for a visa (where required) in good time. Travel that is paid for by the scheme must be booked through the University travel management system.

The fellow will be provided with library privileges at the University of Southampton (including access to the Parkes Library and Special Collections) and an office (with a computer if required). The Parkes Institute can also offer support for visa applications where needed.

The fellow is expected to live in Southampton, attend Parkes events and seminars, and participate in the intellectual life of the institute. The fellow will be required to give a seminar paper and present their work to students.
