The MA and PhD programs in German Studies at the University of Cincinnati invite applications for competitively funded positions for the upcoming academic year. The application deadline to begin in Fall 2018 is January 15, 2018.

German Studies at UC combines fundamental training in German-language, literature, and culture with a commitment to offering students relevant hands-on experience. Students in the program:
- assist on study tours to Europe
- edit a scholarly journal
- organize an annual conference
- program film series and festivals
- work with area students and teachers on K-12 education

UC German students are prepared for careers in a variety of academic and cultural institutions. Recent graduates have gone on to careers as university faculty, art museum curators, and secondary school teachers.

The department houses the Center for Film & Media Studies, which offers students the opportunity to work with cinemas, production companies, and film festivals throughout the region, and the UC Game Lab, which has built an extensive playable archive of analog and digital games. Core areas of research for faculty and students are 20th-and 21st-century cinema, games and playable media, and media art.

UC German offers an abundance of funding opportunities for short- and long-term study abroad, ranging from ten days to a full academic year. Graduate students assist with annual study tours to Berlin and Munich, receive stipends for summer research trips, and have the opportunity to spend a year at one of 30 partner universities throughout Germany. A brand-new partnership with the University of Duisburg-Essen allows students to simultaneously earn a dual PhD in German Studies at UC and in Literatur und Medienpraxis at UDE, with residency at both universities over the course of their career.

Cincinnati is a dynamic city nestled within the hills of the Ohio River Valley. It has world-class cultural institutions, vibrant neighborhoods, and a longstanding Germanic heritage.
