FELLOWSHIPS 2015/2016
AT THE VIENNA WIESENTHAL INSTITUTE FOR HOLOCAUST STUDIES (VWI)
The Vienna Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI) invites applications for its fellowships for the academic year 2015/2016.
The VWI is an academic institution dedicated to the research and documentation of antisemitism, racism and the Holocaust. Conceived and established during Simon Wiesenthal’s lifetime, the VWI receives funding from the Austrian Ministry of Science, Research and Economy as well as the City of Vienna. Research at the institute focuses on the Holocaust in its European context, including its antecedents and its aftermath.
Research projects are to focus on a topic relevant to the research interests of the VWI. Within this parameter, applicants are free to choose their own topic, approach and methodology. Fellows will have access to the archives of the institute, now under development. It is expected that fellows will make use of relevant resources from the collection in their research projects. Research results will be the subject of formal fellows' discussions and will be presented to the wider public at regular intervals.
Funding is available for
two senior fellows,
two research fellows, and
four junior fellows
to work at the institute for a duration of between six and eleven months.
Senior fellowships will be awarded to qualified scholars who have completed their Ph.D.s, have authored exceptional academic publications and have been working at a university or academic institution for several years.
Research fellowships will be awarded to scholars who have completed their Ph.D.s and have published works in their research field.
Junior fellowships will be awarded to Ph.D. candidates.
With its fellowships, the VWI seeks to encourage communication and academic exchange among the fellows, providing an additional benefit beyond their research work. The fellows are expected to further the institute's academic work and provide each other with advice and support in their research projects. Fellows must be regularly present at the VWI.
Fellows will be selected by the International Academic Advisory Board of the VWI.

DES WIENER WIESENTHAL INSTITUTS FÜR HOLOCAUST-STUDIEN (VWI)
Das Wiener Wiesenthal Institut für Holocaust-Studien (VWI) gibt die Ausschreibung seiner Fellowships für das Studienjahr 2015/2016 bekannt.
Das VWI ist eine noch zu Lebzeiten von Simon Wiesenthal initiierte und konzipierte, vom österreichischen Bundesministerium für Wissenschaft, Forschung und Wirtschaft sowie von der Stadt Wien geförderte wissenschaftliche Einrichtung zur Erforschung und Dokumentation von Antisemitismus, Rassismus und Holocaust. Schwerpunkt der Forschungsarbeit ist der Holocaust in seinem europäischen Zusammenhang, einschließlich seiner Vor- und seiner Nachgeschichte.
Eingereichte Projekte behandeln die Forschungsthematik des VWI; Fragestellung, Verfahren und Methoden stehen frei. Die Bestände des entstehenden institutseigenen Archivs stehen den Fellows zur Verfügung. Ihre Einbeziehung in die Forschungsarbeit ist erwünscht. Ergebnisse werden im Kreis der Fellows diskutiert und in regelmäßigen Abständen einem größeren Publikum präsentiert.
Gefördert werden
zwei Senior Fellows,
zwei Research Fellows und
vier Junior Fellows
für einen Zeitraum zwischen mindestens sechs und maximal elf Monaten.
Als Senior Fellows werden qualifizierte, promovierte Forscherinnen und Forscher gefördert, die sowohl schon herausragende wissenschaftliche Publikationen vorgelegt haben als auch im universitären oder wissenschaftlich-institutionellen Bereich über langjährige Erfahrungen verfügen.
Als Research Fellows werden promovierte Wissenschaftlerinnen und Wissenschaftler mit Publikationen in ihrem Forschungsfeld gefördert.
Im Rahmen des Junior Fellowship-Programms werden Doktorandinnen und Doktoranden gefördert.
Ziel des Aufenthaltes am VWI ist über die Forschungstätigkeit hinausgehend die Kommunikation und wissenschaftliche Interaktion mit den anderen Fellows am Institut. Es wird erwartet, dass Fellows die wissenschaftliche Arbeit des Instituts fördern und sich gegenseitig bei ihren Forschungsvorhaben beratend unterstützen. Die Fellows sind verpflichtet, regelmäßig am VWI anwesend zu sein.
Die Auswahl der Fellows erfolgt durch den Internationalen Wissenschaftlichen Beirat des VWI.
