The Panel on Planetary Thinking is a research-oriented think tank that draws on the interdisciplinary expertise of top JLU scientists to strengthen a university-wide perspective in the field of sustainability at Gießen University since 2020. Together with international scholar- and artist fellows, the Panel realizes a range of activities for scientific outreach to promote holistic perspectives on human-planet relationships within and beyond the university.
The Panel on Planetary Thinking currently seeks applications for a
Research Assistant Position (Wissenschaftliche Hilfskraftstelle)
with a focus on Science Communication & Outreach
82h/month
starting September 1st, 2024, until December 31st, 2025.
Responsibilities
- Science communication (mainly Instagram & Youtube)
- Visual content creation (video- and graphic editing)
- Website management & maintenance
- Technical & organizational event support
- Library management
- Support in research & publication projects
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a field related to sustainability- and environmental- science, geography, social- or political science, media studies, or in the visual- or performing arts
- Strong interest in the research topics of the Panel on Planetary Thinking
- Basic expertise in interdisciplinary sustainability research (e.g. Anthropocene research)
- Excellent English and German language- and communication skills
- Proficient computer-based skills (e.g. Zotero, MS Office, Plone 6 or other CMS, STATA, R, SPSS)
- Proficiency or willingness to learn photo- and video editing (e.g. Canva, Capcut, Adobe Suite)
Requirements
- Independent and reliable way of working and personal initiative
- Goal-oriented and systematic approach
- Ability to quickly familiarize oneself with new topics
We offer you insights in the development of an interdisciplinary initiative with great opportunities in expanding your own research competences due to a network of internationally renowned scholars and artists. The working hours are flexible and can partly be realized remotely; at least one office day per week is obligatory.
