The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society is looking for academic copyediting on a freelance basis for its online journal Arcadia: Explorations in Environmental History (http://www.environmentandsociety.org/arcadia).
Arcadia is an open-access, peer-reviewed international journal for short, engaging environmental histories based at the Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) in Munich. Funded in part by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), the RCC is part of LMU Munich and is the largest Center for Advanced Studies in the field of environmental humanities worldwide. Arcadia is published by the Environment & Society Portal (environmentandsociety.org), the RCC’s digital research infrastructure and publication platform.
We are looking for a freelance copyeditor familiar with the environmental humanities. This person should be a native-level speaker, have an outstanding command of English grammar, and sensitivity to international variations.

By 23 September 2019, please send us a very short cover letter outlining your qualifications, linking to your professional website, and stating your bid for the following work packet (3 articles).

The initial work packet will consist of three articles. For each article, the copyeditor will track changes in a Word document and, where necessary, note queries using the “comment” function. In addition, the copyeditor will ensure formatting in accordance with a house style sheet (based on The Chicago Manual of Style). Specific tasks for each article include:
- copyedit a text body (650-900 words)
- copyedit a short biography (max. 100 words)
- copyedit a summary snippet (max. 20 words)
- copyedit a title
- copyedit max. 7 bibliographic citations
- copyedit 3-5 image captions
- verify that hyperlinks lead to intended targets

We will contact you only if your bid is selected. Once the work is complete, the LMU Munich will transfer the payment upon receipt of an invoice.

Please send your application by 23 September to arcadia@carsoncenter.lmu.de. We look forward to hearing from you.
