The Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society (RCC) is looking for a recent graduate and/or doctoral student to join its communications team. The position will start ideally on 15 November 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter.

The RCC is an international, interdisciplinary research institute located in central Munich. It was founded in 2009 as a joint initiative of LMU Munich (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität) and the Deutsches Museum.

The working language of the Center is English. Editing and communications staff work part time (19h/week) as a member of a team, editing outreach materials, scholarly manuscripts, and working on the RCC’s public profile in the field of environmental humanities. The position may suit candidates who are interested in or enrolled in further study at LMU Munich. Editing and communications staff at the RCC have the opportunity to join in activities with LMU graduate students and the community of international scholars affiliated with the center as Carson Fellows, and have access to university resources, including Munich’s university libraries and the Bavarian State Library, which together house over twenty million volumes.

The candidate will ideally hold an MA or equivalent, with a background in arts or humanities. (In exceptional cases, applicants with a BA and relevant experience may be considered, but the position will then carry a lower salary.) Applicants should enjoy working with colleagues of diverse cultural backgrounds, be able to balance multiple assignments, and meet tight deadlines. Computer literacy and native English competency are required. Knowledge of German and other foreign languages, editorial, communications, or social media experience, and/or an inte-rest in environmental humanities would be advantageous.

The RCC offers an attractive compensation package including a monthly salary of around 1,200 Euros (gross) and 20 days paid vacation. Working hours are flexible. The RCC can also provide assistance with finding accommodation, and, if necessary, work permits and visas. As the candidate will be an employee of the German state, s/he is required to have German health insurance as well as to pay German taxes and contributions to the pension system. We especially seek applications from qualified individuals with disabilities and we welcome applications from women.

To apply, please send your CV, cover letter, a sample of your academic writing (max. 2 pages), and the contact information of two references to jobs@rcc.lmu.de by 30 September 2015.
