The Department of History at Basel University announces a two-years Post-Doc fellowship starting at the 1st of April 2016 (CHF 49’000.- 1st year; CHF 51’000.- 2nd year).
The appointment is closely related to a research project on the history of Venetian glass making and trade combining the history of material culture and materiality on the one hand, and the history of senses and emotions on the other. This project is part of the interdisciplinary research scheme „Materialized Identities: Objects – Affects –Effects in Early Modern Culture, 1450-1700“ dedicated to a fresh perspective onto the material culture of the early modern period. The scheme as a whole is a joint venture of the Universities of Bern, Cambridge and Basel; it will include four group leaders, two PostDoc fellows and two PhD candidates.
The position combines research as well as teaching at the Department of History in either German or English. Candidates are expected to engage in an individual research project that connects to both the sub-project and the leading questions of the research scheme. Research stays in Venice are scheduled.
It is expected that candidates are highly motivated and will personally engage in both the specific project and the overarching research scheme. The fellowship is intended to scholars who hold a PhD-degree in history or art history with distinct interests in cultural, social and/or economic history; experience in Venetian history is desirable.
