RESEARCH ASSOCIATE for the project “Maimonides Centre for Advanced Studies -Jewish Scepticism”

-Salary Level 14 TV-L -

The position in accordance with Section28 subsection3 of the Hamburg higher education act (Hamburgisches Hochschulgesetz, HmbHG) commences on October 1, 2019 pending external funding.

This is a fixed-term contract in accordance with Section 2 of the academic fixed-term labor contract act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz, WissZeitVG). The term is fixed until September 30, 2023. The position calls for 39 hours per week.

Responsibilities
Duties include academic services in the project named above. Research associates may also pursue independent research and further academic qualifications.

Specific Duties
The successful candidate will focus her/his research on scepticism within Hasidism, mysticism, or Kabbalah, or religiosity. In addition to research, the successful candidate will be in charge of the Centre’s "Studies and Texts in Scepticism (STIS)" publication series.

Requirements
A university degree in a relevant subject (e.g. Jewish studies, philosophy) plus doctorate. The candidate should have a strong background in Jewish philosophy. The applicant's research should be directly connected to a field relevant to the Maimonides Centre's research focus. Furthermore the following skills and work experience are required:
- Very good English language skills
- The knowledge of additional languages relevant for the project, such as Hebrew, Arabic, Latin, Greek, etc.
- Experience in publishing and editing academic publications (monographs, editions, proceedings, etc.

Applicants not proficient in German are expected to acquire proficiency in due time.
