Student Assistant (60 hrs/mth)

The project:
Compilation of a 16-volume source edition in line with the German original version but updated and adapted for an English-language readership: "Die Verfolgung und Ermordung der europäischen Juden durch das nationalsozialistische Deutschland 1933-1945" (VEJ), co-edited by the German Federal Archives, the Institute of Contemporary History Munich-Berlin and the University of Freiburg, and funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). Range of duties:
- General assistance in compiling the volumes
- Using an XML-based editing system in a database (Oxygen XML-editor, TCToolbox)
- Index compilation
- Researching bibliographical references
- Checking biographical details
- Checking external translations and editing texts

Requirements:
- University studies in Modern History or a related subject
- Knowledge of and interest in Holocaust History, History of WW II and Jewish History in Europe
- Experience of using XML-based editing systems is welcome
- English native speaker or excellent written and spoken English skills
- Excellent written and spoken German skills
- Work/Internship experience in a similar project/publication house is welcome
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Attention to detail

Start date: January 2018

Duration of contract:
1 year (with the possibility of extension for another year)

Remuneration according to regulations set by the University of Freiburg
