The Federal Agency for Civic Education will host histoCON 2025 in Berlin this May, a distinctive international festival dedicated to examining the multifaceted legacy of World War II. This event offers a structured platform for young individuals, aged 18–27, from diverse global contexts to engage in a critical dialogue about the war's enduring impact on contemporary societies.
The festival’s three-day program is designed to foster an interdisciplinary approach, encouraging participants to exchange perspectives through interactive workshops, collaborative projects, and moderated discussions. Central to the event is the exploration of World War II as a global phenomenon that continues to influence international relations, collective memory, and socio-political structures. Participants will interrogate narratives of the war, question dominant historical interpretations, and analyze the voices that remain marginalized in prevailing accounts.
By engaging young people in reflective and creative processes, the festival aims to not only deepen understanding of World War II’s historical significance but also to equip participants with the analytical skills necessary to connect past events to the present and future.
The event's setting in Berlin, a city with a complex and layered history, provides an evocative backdrop for these discussions. Beyond academic engagement, participants will have opportunities to experience the city’s rich cultural and historical landscape, further contextualizing the dialogues and activities within a real-world environment.
In addition to its intellectual benefits, histoCON 2025 promotes accessibility and inclusivity. The organizers provide accommodation and meals for all attendees and offer partial reimbursement for travel expenses.
Applications for participation remain open until February 15, 2025.
