Learning Memory Culture. Concepts and Methods for Historical Learning in Memorials and Museums - International Dissemination Conference of the Comenius Project TeacMem (Nov 19 – Nov 21, 2012)

How can we approach historical remembrance? This question lies at the heart of the three-year, EU-funded project TeacMem, which involves partners from Denmark, Germany and Norway. The participants (teaching educators, historians, teachers, memorial educators, disseminators and students) have studied the memory cultures regarding the Nazi era and World War II in the three countries. Together, they have developed and tested a range of educational methods for transferring knowledge about this subject in memorials and schools.

The concluding conference will feature the presentation of a publication and film. Participants will also talk about the methods they have developed during the project, which will be demonstrated in workshops.

The conference will take place in the Lichthof building of the Hamburg University Library and in the Centre for Historical Studies of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial.

The language of the conference will be English.
