I am putting together a panel at the 2013 ASEEES convention with the provisional title “Communist Regimes and Antisemitism”. The panel proposes to address the broad and multifaceted ways in which Communist regimes approached the issue of antisemitism in Central and East Europe between 1917 and 1991. Proposals are invited for papers which will analyse theoretical and/or political aspects of Communist attitudes and practices towards antisemitism. The intention is for the panel to focus specifically on Communist regimes, however depending on the proposals received, papers which look at Marxist and Socialist parties not in government, or particular key individuals who addressed the issue of antisemitism from a Marxist perspective may also be accepted.
