Nuclear programs and nuclear accidents have altered the life and environments in vast territories in Eastern Europe and Asia. Nuclear legacies constitute an important factor in co-shaping the historical development and present social change in these territories. Moreover these nuclear landscapes became sites of knowledge production on radiation biology during the second half of the 20th century. While symmetries between the US and USSR nuclear programs have been extensively addressed by Cold War historians, the interrelations in nuclear programs and policies between the USSR and Asia have remained largely understudied. Therefore the multi-disciplinary workshop especially addresses the entangled history of nuclear landscapes in Eastern Europe and Asia, which becomes manifest in nuclear production chains, in circulation of radiation risk knowledge and in research collaborations.
