We invite applications investigating the staging of politics in the MENA region (including Turkey and Iran) in the 20th and 21th century. Submissions may deal with a particular moment in time, take a historic comparative perspective or compare between different countries. Submissions should centre around one of the three core themes:
a) political actors and/or their ‘enemies’ (e.g. hero and villain, personal vs. institutional politics, questions of the human body/embodiment),
b) the staging of politics from an aesthetic-technical point of view (e.g. questions of aesthetic production, symbols, political ritual, architecture, sculptures, or materials and colours) or
c) narratives (with regard to main themes, their political use and interpretation and (emotional) appeal to the audience)
We invite applications from a wide disciplinary background including e.g. anthropology, art history, communication and media studies, history, political studies, sociology, theatre studies and alike. Submissions should be sent in until February, 20th. Abstracts should have a summary of around 300 words as well as name, title and institution of the applicant and be submitted by email in word format to charlottejoppien@hotmail.com
