”Entangling Histories of the Baltic Sea Region”. 7th Conference for junior researchers of the Baltic Sea region in Sankelmark (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany), April 17-19, 2020

“Academia Baltica“ (Sankelmark) invites you to a conference for junior researchers addressing “Entangling histories of the Baltic Sea Region”. The conference will take place at Sankelmark Academy near the German-Danish border and the Baltic Sea in April 17-19, 2020. Its aim is to gather younger researchers from, above all, countries south and east of the Baltic rim (Germany, Poland, Kaliningrad Oblast, the Baltic States) and discussing different aspects of a popularized history of the Baltic Sea region. Suitable papers could deal with

Regional concepts (e.g. „Baltic countries“, „Northern Europe“, „Hanse area“ etc.)
International relations (co-operations, alliances, conflicts)
Cultural transfer (ideas, cultural items, culturally engaged persons)
Migration
Historical developments of assimilation, acculturation, and integration

Presentations dealing with cultural constructions of physical and mental spaces of the Baltic Sea area are welcome as well.

Conference languages are German and English. Contributions are scheduled to max. 20 minutes.

Young researchers (M.A. and PhD candidates, postdocs) dealing with the topics outlined and coming from countries south and east to the Baltic Sea rim are encouraged to submit their proposals. The conference is an interdisciplinary forum open not only for historians, but also for history orientated political scientists, sociologists, literary and language scholars, ethnologists, geographers, and other scholars in humanities thematically related.
