Fellowships at the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Prague, Brno)

The Institute of Czech Literature (ICL) of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) welcomes Ph.D. students and postdoctoral or senior researchers in Czech or Central European literature and culture to apply for two opportunities: the Josef Dobrovský Fellowship (a 2-, 4- or 6-week programme for early career researchers up to 35 years of age) and the Zdeněk Pešat Fellowship (a 2- or 4-week programme for researchers of any age). Both fellowships provide the opportunity to work on a specific research project and establish or deepen connections with the ICL.

Until December 31, 2020, we are accepting applications for stays by scholars next year (starting in April 2021).

Before applying, please contact our deputy director for international cooperation, Mag. Dr. Michael Wögerbauer (zamini@ucl.cas.cz) to discuss your application.

The Josef Dobrovský Fellowship is intended for Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers (usually up to 35 years of age; older applicants may apply for the programme below) who are interested in Czech studies in a linguistic or geographic sense. This Czech Academy of Sciences grant enables the short-term stays of scholars for 15–45 days at one of the CAS institutes. For more information, please see: http://www.ucl.cas.cz/en/2013-02-15-12-26-21/czech-studies-grant

The Zdeněk Pešat Fellowship is a funding programme of the ICL for foreign researchers who are interested in Czech literature. The visiting fellowship is intended for two- or four-week stays. At least one of the three visiting fellowships awarded annually by the ICL is intended to enhance cooperation with partners in the International Consortium for the Creation and Use of Czech Literary Bibliography (https://clb.ucl.cas.cz/en). More details can be found at: https://www.ucl.cas.cz/cs/mezinarodni-spoluprace/stipendium-zdenka-pesata

Both fellowships are preferably awarded to applicants whose projects reflect research being undertaken at the ICL. We specialise in the literary history of the Czech lands (and Central Europe in general) and Czech literary thought from its origins to the present day. Our work focuses on large-scale projects in history, lexicography and literary theory. One essential part of the Institute’s work is its role as a national and international information centre in the field. For more information, please visit: https://www.ucl.cas.cz/en
