The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance is looking for a student assistant to support the IHRA's grant program.

Student Assistant for the IHRA grant program

The position needs to be filled by January 2021 and we encourage all interested applicants to apply immediately. The vacancy announcement will stay open until a suitable candidate has been found.

Background
The IHRA unites governments and experts from 34 Member Countries to strengthen, advance and promote Holocaust education, remembrance and research worldwide, and to uphold the commitments of the 2000 Stockholm Declaration. To this end, IHRA delegates, consisting of governmental representatives and experts, make recommendations on issues connected to Holocaust education, research and remembrance. The IHRA also carries out both internal projects and funds external multilateral projects on Holocaust-related issues.

Headed by the Secretary General and supported by 10 staff members, the Permanent Office coordinates the IHRA’s activities. It provides support and advice to the IHRA Chair, assists with the organization of the bi-annual Plenary and other meetings, represents the IHRA at international meetings, coordinates the grant program, manages the IHRA’s projects, and facilitates the flow of information among IHRA delegates and external interlocutors. The Permanent Office is also responsible for the IHRA’s website and digital communication platforms.

Tasks and Responsibilities
We are looking for a Student Assistant who is motivated to work in the secretariat of an international organization and willing to help with the management of the IHRA grant program. The current IHRA grant strategy aims to increase the capacity of NGOs to safeguard the record of the Holocaust and the genocide of the Roma and to counter distortion.

Among others, the duties of the Student Assistant will include:
- Supporting the Program Officer responsible for the IHRA’s Grant Strategy
- Providing assistance in the formal review of grant applications
- Drafting correspondence for the Program Officer
- Communicating with applicants
- Assisting with preparation of documentation for the Assessment Board and grant recipients.
- Performing general administrative tasks (e.g. arrangements for meetings).
- Maintaining the electronic filing system for applications and grants.
- Providing assistance in the review of final reports, compiling and summarizing basic information, including follow-up communication with the grant recipients.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Person Specification
Candidates without EU/EEA citizenship should be able to provide the necessary work and residence permit as well as proof of BaFin-approved health insurance.

Essential
- Graduate student with Bachelor's degree completed (applications from all fields are welcome, not only history or Holocaust studies; applicants should be sensitive to Holocaust-related issues)
- Ability to work in fast-paced environment with great attention to detail and efficient use of time.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Willing to work flexible hours
- Ability to adjust to a wide range of new tasks and new content in a short timeframe
- Ability to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with people of different cultural and religious backgrounds
- Ability to deal with sensitive political issues
- Punctual, reliable

Further Detail
This position offers a great chance to gain firsthand experience in a Berlin-based international office that deals with current political challenges on the level of diplomacy. The hourly rate will be 12,00 €.
Working hours: Flexible, up to 20 hours per week

A contract duration of two years is envisioned. Initially, a contract for one year will be issued, which will be extended, subject to approval of the overall budget by the Member Countries.

Applicants should be able to work from home as the IHRA Permanent Office is currently working remotely to help ensure the safety of our staff.
