The Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology invites applications for a Full Professor in Islamic Text Studies (Qur’ān and Hadith)’ (W3) from 1 October 2021.
The professor’s teaching and research will focus on the Qur’ān and incorporate the legacy of records of the Prophet’s teachings and life (hadith and sira), considering both the writings’ historical contexts and their traditional (especially Shia and Sunni) exegesis as well as their communication and interpretation in view of Muslims’ contemporary lived realities (including gender aspects). The successful candidate is also expected to be open to interdisciplinary cooperation, both within Humboldt-Universität (especially with Christian theologies and fields in the humanities and cultural studies) and with other scholarly institutions in Greater Berlin.
In regard to teaching, the professor is expected to contribute devotedly to the development of the core bachelor’s programmes, the master’s programmes in Islamic Theology and ‘Islam and Society’ and the doctoral programme.
A further requirement is contributing to the development and self-administration of the Berlin Institute for Islamic Theology.
The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with article 100 of the `Berliner Hochschulgesetz´.
