The department of early modern history at University of Tübingen invites applications for a position as doctoral researcher / PhD candidate to be employed from the earliest possible date. The position is available for three years, with the possibility to extend to four years. The salary will be established according to the German E13 TV-L scale for public sector employees (and equals 65 percent of a lecturer’s salary).
Duties:
The position includes teaching duties (one course per semester, at two hours per week), collaboration in the department’s research activities and occasional administrative tasks. The successful candidate will pursue an original research project of their own design in early modern history (PhD project), preferably focusing on early modern global history.
Conditions of employement:
The successful candidate holds an excellent master’s degree (or an equivalent qualification) in history or a neighbouring historical discipline, with a focus on early modern history, and is demonstrably interested in global or entangled history. Engagement with trans-epochal and interdisciplinary research questions is desirable, as is the ability to work in a team. Fluency in English is required. If the candidate has no knowledge of German, we expect they acquire the ability to participate in the department’s meetings and events, with German as working language, within the first two years. Further required language skills are dependent on the research project pursued. Courses can be taught in English.
Applicants with disabilities are given preferential consideration in the event of equal qualification. We find diversity of great importance, so we welcome colleagues with diverse backgrounds and perspectives. The University of Tübingen is committed to increasing the percentage of women in research and teaching and thus encourages women with adequate qualifications to apply.
Applications containing the usual documents (cover letter, curriculum vitae, copies of certificates / diplomas, and if applicable, lists of publications and of courses taught) and an outline of the research project (max. 1,500 words) should be submitted via e-mail (in one single PDF file) to Prof. Dr. Renate Dürr (renate.duerr@uni-tuebingen.de) by February 28, 2023.
