The Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max-Planck-Institut (KHI), founded in 1897, has been an institute of the Max Planck Society since 2002. Its research focuses on the histories of art and architecture in a transcultural perspective over a wide chronological and geographical range. A prime concern is to combine historical research with a critical engagement in current debates and challenges, for example urbanism, ecology, aesthetics, heritage, migration and diversity, the future of museums, media and material cultures and the digital transformation, among others. With its extensive program of public events in Florence, Berlin and other locations, the KHI sees itself as a forum for a lively, international, and interdisciplinary academic exchange.

Starting in October 2024, the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florenz – Max Planck Institute is looking for a Student Assistant (f/m/d) for the Research Coordination and Public Relations unit. The unit is mainly responsible for research management, the event program, research communication, and media relations.

The tasks of the student assistant include, in particular

Support for the Research Coordination and Public Relations team, especially in the areas of research management, events, and research communication;
Support in the organization of scientific events (lectures, workshops, conferences, internal events);
Graphic design;
Image and video editing, including post-production and archiving of photo and video material;
Text editing, including proofreading and, if necessary, translation.

Requirements:

University study (completed or ongoing) of art history, architectural history, cultural studies, or related subjects;
Team, communication, and organizational skills;
Time flexibility;
Confident with social media (IG, X, FB, Linkedin), Microsoft Office and the Adobe Suite;
Very good knowledge of English, good knowledge of Italian; knowledge of German is an advantage;
Experience in event organization, communication and/or project management is an advantage;
Graphics skills are an advantage.
You can look forward to a dynamic and multifaceted role at one of the most renowned research institutes in the humanities with researchers from all over the world. During your stay, you will be able to use the institute’s excellent research infrastructure, including the Library and Photothek, as well as to benefit from its extensive academic program.

This is a part-time position with 20 hours/week. The position is based in Florence, Italy and is limited to 6 months, with an option to extend.
