Applications are invited for the position of Associate Professor of European Studies. This is a full-time position (100%) in the Department of Historical and Classical Studies (IHK) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway (https://www.ntnu.edu/ihk). The position is based in Trondheim. Duties of the position
The person appointed will be required to participate in teaching activities in the Bachelor in European Studies and in the International Master in European Studies and to teach existing courses in those degree programmes. The appointee will also supervise Bachelor and Master Theses in European Studies. Additional teaching and/or supervision duties may be required in accordance with teaching and supervision needs in the Department. You may also be expected to develop attractive modules for our BA programme and for the development of our MA programme. Courses in the Master in European Studies are fully taught in English. The language of instruction is both Norwegian and English in the Bachelor in European Studies. The successful candidate will be required to take a share of the department's and programme’s administrative work.

We are particularly interested in candidates having teaching and research experience broadly in the field of International and European Relations, including international and trans-national politics and policies of Europe and the European Union, and in Europe's and the EU’s role within the broader global system.

The successful applicant must be an active researcher, who will collaborate with colleagues to further develop research in the study of Europe, the EU and the EEA at NTNU, and to initiate and lead projects.
The successful candidate must fulfil the following essential qualification requirements. S/He must:

Hold a doctorate in European Studies, International Relations, History, Politics or cognate disciplines at the time of application
Be able to document scholarly expertise in one or more areas of European Studies after 1945
Have a strong track record of international and peer-reviewed publications in the field (in the past 5 years) with evidence of an active research agenda going forward
Have the breadth of knowledge required to teach in one or more of our core BA and MA courses
Have a fluent proficiency in English
Have teaching experience at university level
Having a command of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. It will be considered an asset but is not a prerequisite.

It is a prerequisite that within three years of appointment, new employees who do not speak a Scandinavian language can demonstrate skills in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language equivalent to level three in the course for Norwegian for speakers of other languages at the Department of Language and Literature at NTNU.
