"A place where knowledge is created". As a leading business university we set global standards for research and teaching by promoting integrative thought, responsible action and an entrepreneurial spirit of innovation in business and society.

Associate Professor of Urban Studies (100%)

The position is attached to the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS) at the University of St.Gallen. The successful candidate will take up his or her position on 1 September 2022.

Basic Requirements are a PhD thesis, first-class publications in leading journals and an outstanding track record in university teaching. We are looking for a highly qualified researcher excelling in empirical work (qualitative and mixed methods, source-based research etc.) and/or comprehensive theoretical approaches. The disciplinary orientation of the position is open, while interdisciplinary experience will be valued highly. Possible fields of study include – but are not limited to – human geography, anthropology, sociology, migration and mobility studies, environmental studies, urban development and planning as well as urban history. In order to advance understanding of current transformations, challenges and conflicts, a focus on contemporary topics is welcome.

The teaching load is 8 hours per week (during two semesters of 12 weeks each). Applicants are expected to teach interdisciplinary courses — mainly in the University's Contextual Studies Programme — and to be committed to the University's self-administration.

The University of St.Gallen offers BA, MA and PhD programmes in English and German. Teaching can be in English exclusively. The University's administrative language is German. If the successful candidate has no prior knowledge of German, he or she will be expected to acquire a passive knowledge of the language within two years.

The University of St.Gallen is strongly committed to promoting equal opportunities and diversity. We specifically encourage women and applicants with backgrounds underrepresented among our current senior faculty to apply.

Applications should include a cover letter and the following supporting documents: CV, list of publications, short teaching and research statements (no copies of publications and references). They should be submitted online via https://facultyrecruiting.unisg.ch/positiondetails/9011200 at the latest by 3 May 2021.

Further details on the position are available on request from the Chair of the Appointments Committee, Professor Dr. Caspar Hirschi (facultyposition@unisg.ch).gen/).
