Our Profile
The Käte Hamburger Kolleg Cultures of Research is an international centre for advanced studies funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. It offers international fellows from the humanities and social sciences, as well as fellows from the natural, life, and technical sciences, a free space to develop their own research and to exchange ideas with each other. The international centre is positioned where the fields of philosophy, history, and sociology of science and technology interface with STS science and technology studies. The focus of the centre’s work is on the manifold research cultures of the sciences, their commonalities, differences, and how they are transformed through interdisciplinary discourse. The international centre is part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Rheinisch-Westfälische Technische Hochschule (RWTH Aachen University), whose student body of 47,000 makes it one of the largest technical universities in Europe. With over fifty professorships and ten institutes from the humanities and social sciences, the Faculty of Arts and Humanities is an integral part of the interdisciplinary culture of teaching and research at RWTH Aachen University.

Your Profile
Doctorate in the field of sociology or ethnography of science and technology and/or STS science and technology studies. Extensive knowledge of research cultures of the sciences from the perspective of ethnography, sociology, and/or STS. Interest in interdisciplinary discourse on the manifold research cultures. Outstanding international research profile. Experience with organizing events. Capacity for independent scientific work. Creativity, flexibility, team orientation. Excellent English. Good computer skills.

Your Duties
Together with the directors of the international centre, you design the integrated program of events. You coordinate the organization of the events and the press work this entails, and are responsible for supporting visiting speakers. In addition, you perform independent research in the context of the centre’s thematic focus that contributes to its scientific reputation, and submit your research findings both to the international research community and to research-related forms of teaching at the centre.
