Application period until 10 January 2025
Since 2011, the Museum Schloss Moyland Foundation, together with the Circle of Friends of the Museum Schloss Moyland e. V. and Volksbank Kleverland eG, has been awarding the Joseph Beuys Prize for Research.
The artist Joseph Beuys (1921–1986), whose home and first place of work was the Lower Rhineland, left behind a universal oeuvre that extends far beyond Germany. During his career, Beuys frequently collaborated with other artists such as Henning Christiansen, Nam June Paik, Charlotte Moorman and others, and developed his international impact through his extended networks with various gallery owners, curators, the Fluxus group and others. Beuys is considered one of the most important German-born artists of the 20th century.
As an international Beuys centre, the Museum Schloss Moyland Foundation owns the world’s largest collection of works, especially from his early creative years, and archival material relating to Joseph Beuys. Various aspects of the collection and archive are continually being made visible and accessible to the general public. Art historical research projects and experimental formats of artistic "research" are roughly balanced in the museum's work.
>The Prize
The interdisciplinary Joseph Beuys Prize is aimed at graduates of universities, colleges or academies with their bachelor's, master's, diploma or doctoral theses in all disciplines on aspects and influence of Joseph Beuys. Academic essays, exhibition or art mediation projects based on and incorporating their own research findings can also be submitted. These should demonstrably contain new findings about Beuys, for example his environment, his ideals or his influence.
The prize money amounts to 10,000 euros.
The works will be judged by July 2025. The jury reserves the right to divide the prize between two winners if necessary. The award ceremony will take place in August 2025 at Museum Schloss Moyland.
