The series intends to offer insights into common land during the early modern and modern periods in various Western European regions, including the Netherlands, England, Germany, Spain, and Portugal. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of the commons, the importance of historical analysis of common land tenure, and the insights and reflections that knowledge of the past can offer.

Between Eden and Fall: Common Land in Early Modern and Modern Western Europe

Between April 23 and June 18, the ERC project IberLAND (Leibniz Universität Hannover) will host the Fifth Research Colloquium titled “Between Eden and Fall: Common Land in Early Modern and Modern Western Europe”. This lecture series aims to provide an overview of common land in the early modern and modern ages across various Western European regions through the work of five senior researchers in the field.

The series intends to offer insights into common land during the early modern and modern periods in various Western European regions, including the Netherlands, England, Germany, Spain, and Portugal. It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the phenomenon of the commons, the importance of historical analysis of common land tenure, and the insights and reflections that knowledge of the past can offer.
