The Center for the History of Emotions, led by Prof. Dr. Ute Frevert,
has three vacant positions for a student research assistant with 20 hours per month each.
Starting date: 1 January 2019 or later
Position 1:
Support of the research project “Rehearsing the Past: The Art of Writing the History of Emotions in Dialogue with other Artistic Fields (Theater/Performance, Music/Sound, Dance/Movement, and all Visual and Sculptural Forms)” of Dr Michael Amico
Responsibilities:
- Bibliographical research in English and German primary and secondary sources
- Independent excerption of primary and secondary sources
- Sourcing of literature
- Assisting with the organization and administration of a conference and/or series of workshops
Requirements:
- Enrolment as a student (PhD students are NOT eligible) in a German university
- Involvement in or first-hand knowledge of one or more of the artistic fields: theater/ performance, music/sound, dance/movement, and all visual and sculptural forms (more than being an audience member)
- Investment in the discipline of history
- Knowledge of English and German essential (good reading skills)
- Fluency in English (especially good reading and writing ability)
- High personal motivation, ability to work independently and attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines and to work without direct supervision
Position 2:
Support of the research project “Love and Labour in the City: Romantic Love and Delhi’s Workers, c. 1950s to the present” of Dr Rukmini Barua
Responsibilities:
- Bibliographical research in English and Hindi primary and secondary sources
- Independent excerption of primary and secondary sources
- Sourcing of literature
Requirements:
- Enrolment as a student (PhD students are NOT eligible) in a German university
- At least two study semesters in humanities or social sciences
- Knowledge of English and Hindi essential (good reading skills)
- High personal motivation, ability to work independently and attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines and to work without direct supervision
- Knowledge of Urdu or Bhojpuri desired
- Familiarity with database management software (e.g. EndNote, Citavi) desired
Position 3:
Support of the research project “Performing Patriotism: War Songs and Emotional Communities in Contemporary Japan” of Dr Makoto Harris Takao
Responsibilities:
- Bibliographical research in English and Japanese primary and secondary sources
- Independent excerption of primary and secondary sources
- Maintenance of primary source database
- Translation of mainly colloquial Japanese (social media, YouTube, forum comments) to English
- Sourcing of literature
Requirements:
- Enrolment as a student (PhD students are NOT eligible) in a German university
- At least two study semesters in humanities or social sciences
- Knowledge of Japanese essential (read proficiency and aural comprehension of JLPT N2 or N1 preferred, but this is negotiable)
- Fluency in English (especially good reading and writing ability)
- High personal motivation, ability to work independently and attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines and to work without direct supervision
- Knowledge of other European languages will be considered advantageous
