Das Simon-Dubnow-Institut (DI) ist eine international ausgerichtete Forschungseinrichtung, die sich der wissenschaftlichen Erforschung der jüdischen Lebenswelten vornehmlich in Mittel-, Ostmittel-, Ost- und Südosteuropa vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart widmet. Es vertritt diesen Gegenstand in der universitären Lehre und präsentiert die Ergebnisse seiner Forschung in unterschiedlichen Formen vor einer akademischen und allgemein interessierten Öffentlichkeit.

Die Vollzeitstelle wird bei vorhandener Qualifikation mit der Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L vergütet und ist zunächst auf zwei Jahre befristet, mit der Aussicht auf Verlängerung vorbehaltlich der zur Verfügung stehenden Haushaltsmittel des öffentlichen Zuwendungsgebers.

Zu den Aufgaben gehören:
- Wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit in Forschung und Lehre (Durchführung von Lehrveranstaltungen)
- Mitarbeit bei der Organisation und Durchführung von Forschungsprojekten
- Vorbereitung und Erstellung von Publikationen
- Gelegenheit zur selbstbestimmten Forschung im Rahmen der Forschungsschwerpunkte (Habilitation) ist vorgesehen

Vorausgesetzt werden:
- Promotion in einem der für das DI relevanten Fächer, insb. Neuere und Neueste Geschichte, Judaistik, Jüdische Studien
- Bereitschaft zur Habilitation ausdrücklich erwünscht
- sehr gute Team- und Kommunikationsfähigkeit; eigenverantwortliche Arbeitsweise
- Kenntnisse der für den Forschungsgegenstand einschlägigen Fremdsprachen

We are seeking qualified applicants for the following position at the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture (DI), University of Leipzig, with effective date of employment from 1 December 2015:

Research Associate (Wissenschaftliche/r Mitarbeiter/in)

Compensation for the full-time position, for a candidate with appropriate qualifications, is in accordance with the FRG salary class 13 TV-L. Duration of the appointment is initially limited to two years, with the possibility for extension subject to the availability of the budget of the institute.

The Simon Dubnow Institute (DI) is a research institute with an international orientation. The Institute's work centers on research on the life-worlds of the Jews, primarily in Central, East Central, Eastern and Southeastern Europe. The temporal frame is from the medieval period down to the present. The DI represents its focus through courses offered at the University of Leipzig and presents the findings of its research in various forms to an academic and generally interested public.

Functions and tasks:
- Scholarly activity in research and teaching (conducting of courses)
- Involvement in organizing and implementing of research projects at the Institute
- Preparation and drafting of publications
- Opportunity available for self-determined research in the framework of special research areas (habilitation)

Requirements/Profile:
- Completed doctorate in a discipline relevant for the work of the Institute, especially Modern and Contemporary History, Jewish Studies, Studies in Judaica
- Desirable is that the candidate is ready to write a habilitation thesis
- High level of ability to work on a team, excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of foreign languages relevant to the foci of the candidate’s research
