The Journal of Migration Studies (Zeitschrift für Migrationsforschung, ZMF) is a peer-reviewed open access journal in English and German language, published twice a year by the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück. It offers a forum for the scholarly examination of the background and conditions of spatial movements of people in the past and present as well as of social change induced by migration processes in contexts of origin, transit, and destination. Contributions present new findings from various disciplines and fields of research, discuss concepts or formulate theoretical proposals.
We invite scholars in migration research to submit proposals for special issues (6-9 contributions) or special thematic sections in a regular issue (3-5 contributions). Proposals can be submitted at any time, without a specific deadline. Journal articles are subject to a double-blind peer review process and should not exceed a length of 65,000 characters (incl. spaces). Texts that have been submitted as shorter discussion papers (not more than 35,000 characters) are commented and evaluated by the editors.
Proposals for special issues or special thematic sections should include the following information: 1) name, affiliation, CV, list of major publications and contact of the guest editor(s), 2) an abstract of two or three pages on the proposed theme, its scientific relevance, the chosen approach(es), and an overview of the contributions, 3) abstracts of articles (and discussion papers), including author names and contribution titles, 4) a suggested time schedule.
Proposals for special issues will be reviewed by the board of editors. In case a special issue is approved, each article will be subject to a double-blind peer review process.
