Third EBHA CONFERENCE in ROTTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS, AUTUMN 1999

The third conference of the European Business History Association will be held in
Rotterdam, The Netherlands on 24-26 September 1999.

The main field of the conference is: Business and Society.The aim of the conference is to review the non-market relations of companies and business in general.

4 themes could be distinguished:

business and government ( i.e. governmental measures and influence, wage policy, labour conditions, taxation policy andcapital investment opportunities)
business and interest groups (i.e. employers organisations, trade unions, Chambers of commerce, trade organisations)
business, shareholders and stakeholders (i.e. topics as business ethics and business lifestyle, pressure groups like environmental and consumer groups, protest movements)
business and cultural organisations ( i.e. housing associations, sponsoring of art institutions, sport etc., social entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs in social, political and cultural networks)
Each of the themes can deal with international, national and local level. Comparative research is preferable, in the papers its self as well as in each theme. The themes will be discussed in 4 sessions each. Obviously, within each theme it will be possible to organise sessions on a specific branch of trade like banking, textile industry etc.

The tradition of a special dissertation session will be continued. Moreover, one of more poster sessions will be organised to give the participants the opportunity to present on going research. The opening and the closure of the conference will be formed by plenary sessions with keynote lectures.

Time schedule for the preparation of papers:

30 September 1998 proposal of 1 page
31 December 1998 abstract of 4 pages
30 June 1999 definitive version plus summary of 4 pages.
Proposals are invited either for individual papers of sessions of 90 minutes and no more than 3 papers per session. Suggestions for sessions should include the name of the organiser and the contributors.
