The Research Centre on Antigypsyism at the Heidelberg University’s Department of History (Centre for European History and Cultural Studies) announces a research fellowship with an annual funding amount of 20,000.- Euro and with project start date January 1st, 2021 (or between January 1st and May 1st, 2021, depending on the kind of scholarship; see below).
Closing date for applications: August 31st, 2020.
The research fellowship – initiated by the Manfred Lautenschläger Foundation – is named in honour of Mr. Romani Rose, the long-time chair of the Central Council of German Sinti und Roma, and pays tribute to the decades of his commitment to human and civil rights.
The Romani Rose Fellowship is awarded to particularly gifted and committed researchers from countries in the European Union. The research fellowship is awarded in two forms, depending on the individual application:
- Doctoral scholarship for the preparation, development or completion of a doctorate. Funding will be provided for a term of twelve months, the amount of grant is 1.666 € per month, start date January 1st, 2021.
- Postdoctoral scholarship for promoting career development after a completed doctorate. Funding will be provided for a term of eight months, the amount of grant is 2.500 € per month, variable start date between January 1st and May 1st, 2021. Also habilitated researchers can apply.
Applicants are invited to present a research proposal on a self-selected topic. The applications will be reviewed by a commission established at the Research Centre. The research topic should be related to antigypsyism studies or a related field, such as racism or minority research. Interdisciplinary approaches are expressly desired.
The research fellowship is usually linked to a stay in Heidelberg. Due to the special situation (COVID-19), this condition will be exceptionally waived for 2021. If the scholarship holder decides to stay in Heidelberg, the research centre will provide a workplace with a personal computer. The fellow also has the opportunity to use the specialist library at the Documentation and Cultural Centre of German Sinti and Roma, which is also based in Heidelberg. He/she can benefit from the local network, especially from the exchange with other researchers. Possible restrictions and hygiene regulations due to the coronavirus pandemic must be taken into account. The fellow is responsible for his/her accommodation (apartment search and rental fee). Traveling and living expenses are already included in the funding.
Application Requirements:
