Columbia University's Department of Germanic Languages invites applications for an open rank professorial position from outstanding scholars with formal training in anthropology, art history, film studies, history, literary studies, philosophy, sociology, or political science. The department seeks to add a new emphasis on the relationship between German literature and culture and the world beyond Europe.

Candidates with a focus in one or more of the following fields are especially encouraged to apply: Weltliteratur and translation studies; migration cultures; theater and performance studies.

All candidates are expected to have outstanding quality and originality of scholarly research and promise for future development, as well as native or near-native fluency in German and English. All candidates will be expected to sustain an active research and publication agenda and to teach in both the undergraduate and graduate programs.

Compensation will be commensurate to the research record of the candidate.
