Subject: Report: German Studies Association 2002 Sessions

Dear List Members,

In the following weeks we will be posting short descriptions of several panels at this year's German Studies Association Conference (October 3-6, 2002 in San Diego). These reports represent the first measures of a general effort to expand content on H-German and facilitate conversations among the larger community of German historians. With these summaries we hope to present new research to H-German members, thus significantly expanding the reach of a conference session beyond the small number of people who could actually gather in a hotel meeting room.

This collection was organized in a hasty fashion, is not comprehensive, and does not reflect any inherent valuation of these or other panels. Such a pilot project seemed the best way to take initial steps toward more regular postings of conference reports.

We encourage comments, reactions, and discussion on all of the reports that follow. Likewise, we would welcome feedback about this enterprise.

Most Sincerely,

David Imhoof
Paul Steege
