The history of Displaced Persons (DPs) is more topical than it has been for a long time. Since its emergence in the 1980s, research on displaced persons in Germany and Austria has become highly differentiated. Its field of research extends far beyond the narrow confines of the DP camps. It is therefore time for a stocktaking of international DP research at the beginning of the 21st century. This volume demonstrates the successful German-Austrian cooperation in this field. In addition to classical historical aspects, the authors shed light on psychological, ethnological, pedagogical, and media aspects of the new beginnings of displaced persons around the world. Case studies on life after survival, the early search for Nazi criminals, and individual camps round out the volume.
