CfP for Villa Vigoni-Conference, co-organized by the Technical University of Dresden and the Università Cattolica Milano (13–15 Nov 2023).

The Second Generation (2Gen) of Orders and Religious Communities

An international group of eighteen scholars from the fields of history and theology will examine the second (and third) generations of orders and religious communities in the history of Christianity. In this conference, generously sponsored by Villa Vigoni, we will focus on different communities from Late Antiquity to the 20th century, assuming that transitions from (at times charismatic) founders to stabilizing second generations were marked by crises of different character. The conference aims at describing, analyzing, and comparing these phases and processes of transition.

We are very pleased to offer six scholars at early career stages the opportunity to present and discuss their research on the topic of the second generation(s). The costs of travel, accommodation and meals will be covered. Presentations will be given in English, German, or Italian. Conference proceedings will be published.

Please send your application in English, German or Italian (including CV and Abstract, max. 400 words) by 16 April 2023 to andrea.riedl@tu-dresden.de

Notification of successful proposals will be made by early May 2023.
