Building Bridges in Teaching about European Jewish HerStories

Centropa invites you to a three-day training seminar for 35 teachers from Israel, Poland and Germany on "Teaching about European Jewish HerStories“. The seminar is a part of the EU-funded HerStories project (https://her-stories.eu/en) and will begin at noon on September 30 and end on the evening of October 2, with the option to stay an extra night and depart on October 3. The HerStories project portrays the stories of seven Jewish women from seven European countries. During the training seminar we will discuss and share best practices on teaching about 20th century Jewish history.

Participants will:
- explore Berlin's unique historical sites such as the House of the Wannsee Conference, former Jewish quarters such as the Scheunenviertel and Spandauer Vorstadt, as well as Berlin's memorial landscape
- meet with renowned historians to discuss Holocaust remembrance in present-day Germany
- pilot-test the HerStories GoogleClassroom tool developed by the international consortium behind the HerStories project
- work in small groups to develop HerStories lesson plans and projects for classroom use and extracurricular activities

This seminar call is open for active German, Israeli and Polish teachers, as well as representatives from relevant NGOs. The conference language will be English.
Costs for travel, accommodation and meals during the seminar will be covered by Centropa. Please note that participants will be asked to share rooms with another participant. Single rooms are available if participants agree to cover the difference. Participants are requested to attend the entire duration of the seminar in order to receive reimbursement for travel costs.

If you would like to attend, please fill out the form below before August 15, 2023. The final list of selected participants will be announced on August 25, 2023.
