The FHS series brings together research from various historical disciplines. The focus lies on the analysis and interpretation of the material findings, in connection to their role in reconstructing the ancient and medieval history of Sicily.

FHS I (2024) - Ancient and medieval history of Sicily

Research contributions in FHS acknowledge the material findings, including numismatic, architectural, ceramic, and epigraphic findings, in their function as a data basis in the process of historical knowledge acquisition; also ancient topography may be considered. Thus, the archaeological source and topografical data assumes a function that goes beyond merely verifying the statements from the historical literature. With this basic understanding, FHS also offers a platform for methodological exchange in the historical research.

The major focus of the upcoming edition lies on the topic of land-based transport in prehistoric, ancient and medieval Sicily. (Other relevant research papers that meet the basic purpose of FHS as described above, are welcome.)

The upcoming edition will be published in October 2024, and proposals for research contributions can be sent from now on. The final submission of the papers must be made latest by 15.03.2024. Research papers can be submitted in the following languages: German, English, Italian, Spanish, French.
