Mit dem nachfolgenden "Call for papers" ruft eines der thematischen Netzwerke der EHSSC zur Anmeldung von Vortraegen und Sektionen fuer Kongress 1998 in Amsterdam auf. Ausrichter ist das dortige Internationale Institut fuer Sozialgeschichte in Verbindung mit einer langen Reihe von Kolleg/innen aus dem In- und Ausland.

Die erste Konferenz dieser Art hat im Mai 1996 mit Erfolg das U.S.-amerikanische Modell der Social Science History Conferences nach Europa importiert. Das Treffen - in der Naehe von Amsterdam - war durch ein hohes Mass an Professionalitaet, Interdisziplinaritaet und Internationalitaet gekennzeichnet. Zahlreiche Wissenschaftler/innen waren dafuer aus den USA angereist; auch die skandinavischen Laneder und ihre reiche Tradition von Sozialgeschichte und historischer Soziologie waren gut vertreten. Die deutsche Praesenz erschien ausbaufaehig. Innerhalb des Konferenzprogramms koexistieren die 'harten', v.a. quantitativen Richtungen sozialhistorischen Arbeitens friedlich mit neben kulturhistorischen, anthropologischen und diskurstheoretischen Ansaetzen.

Nun treten die thematischen Netzwerke (etwa zu den Bereichen: Antike, Mittelalter, Kultur, Umwelt, Ethnizitaet, Gender, politische Bewegungen, Familie/Demographie, Wirtschaft usw.) wieder an die Fachoeffentlichkeit, um Referenten, Moderatoren und Kommentatoren zu gewinnen. Im folgenden ist die Liste von Themenvorschlaegen des Netzwerks "Soziale Ungleichheit" wiedergegeben, die am Ende der letzten Konferenz zusammengestellt worden ist.

CALL FOR PAPERS

SOCIAL INEQUALITY SESSIONS EUROPEAN SOCIAL HISTORY CONFERENCE

The 2nd European Social Science History Conference (ESSHC) will be held in Amsterdam 5-7 March 1988. The ESSHC aims at bringing together scholars interested in explaining historical phenomena using insights from the social sciences. The conference is characterized by a lively exchange in many small groups - say three papers and a commentator - rather than by formal plenary sessions. The conference is organized in a number of networks.

The SOCIAL INEQUALITY NETWORK of the ESSHC will focus on welfare arrangements and social policy, social mobility, social stratification and lifestyles, social segregation, and related topics. The social inequality network invites proposals for papers on these topics. Deadline for sending in an abstract is 30 April 1997. The registration fee for the conference will amounts to dfl. 150 (say USD 90 at present).
