Second Annual Women's History Month Conference
As we face the new millennium, news media have proclaimed the glories of global capitalism and the advent of unprecedented prosperity for the United States. But for most people, this "boom" means a bust--assaults on social welfare systems from public schools to health care, the resurgence of blame-the-victim explanations for poverty, racism in the name of color-blind policies, the erosion of democracy, systematic violations of economic human rights. This interdisciplinary conference will focus on women's activism against these trends.
We welcome proposals for papers, panels, and workshops on grassroots struggles today and in the past, in both urban and rural communities in the U.S. and other countries. Students and activists are especially invited to participate.
Proposals may address but are not limited to women's organizing around issues such as:
? Public Schools
? Welfare/Workfare PolicyPrison Industrial Complex
Institutional Racism
Globalization
Immigrant Rights
Justice on the Job
Media Politics
Police Aggression
Health Care
Housing
Violence Against Women
