Historical Sociolinguistics Network (HISON)
2nd Summer School in Historical Sociolinguistics
The Interface of Linguistics and History
A summer school for historians and linguists
7. August – 14. August 2008,
University of Bristol, England
This is the second summer school organised by the Historical Sociolinguistics Network (HISON) and it will offer classes by leading historians with an interest in language and sociolinguists with an interest in history. There will be seven taught units (details on the webpage) in which you will explore a number of issues relating to the different methods, intellectual pre-mises, and disciplinary frameworks of pure his-torians and historical sociolinguists working on a range of European lan-guages and historical periods. There will be six hours of teaching per day, complemented by discussion groups sessions during which you can present your own research. There will only be space for 45 graduate students and young researchers, so you are advised to book early.
The school will last for one week and the cost of £180 includes accommodation, tuition, and an excursion. If you pay by April 30, 2008, we will give you a discount of £30 / 50 Euros.
