Textiles have always been one of humanities fundamental needs. Therefore it is not surprising that, from the Middle Ages on, this sector developed a highly specialized and standardized production as well as an international distribution system. Altogether, between 800 and 1500, production techniques as well as trade and consumerism underwent profound but uneven changes throughout Europe.

The conference "Textiles and Economy" will deal with the role of textiles in the medieval economy. Throughout the conference, researchers from all over Europe as well as America will deal with the developments and changes of European textile production, trade, and consumption.

In addition, we offer remote participation through our conference homepage. This gives interested persons the possibility not only to listen to the papers online, but also to pose questions in the discussion.
