International Summer Academy
Nation/State/Diversity in the Danube Region, 1918–1948
Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest 03.09.-10.09.2017
Eötvös Lorand University Budapest, Hungary, the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen, Germany and the Babeş-Bolyai Universität Cluj-Napoca, Romania invite doctoral and postdoctoral students to participate in a Summer Academy on Nation/State/Diversity in the Danube Region, 1918–1948.
The Summer Academy is the result of several years of triangle cooperation between these univer-sities especially in the fields of history and cultural studies. The summer academy on diversity in South Eastern Europe started in Tübingen in 2016 and will be continued in 2017 and 2018 in Bu-dapest and Cluj-Napoca with the temporal focus on the interwar and World War II period, and also on the Cold war era and the EU enlargement process as well.
The main focus of the three Summer Academies is directed on the particular experiences of the Danube Region with ‘diversities’ from a historical perspective – understood not as a problem, but one of the regions advantages. It is structured by key notes of distinguished scholars, presentations of current research projects and work conducted in small groups on texts and essential literature connected to the fields of these key notes and presentations.
The 2017 summer academy in Budapest will cover the following topics: nation, state and diversity with focus on the interwar and World War II period in the Danube Region.
Applicants are expected to send a CV and a letter of motivation. Proposals for research presenta-tions in the mentioned fields are welcome, but not mandatory. The selected participants will re-ceive a reader with introducing texts to prepare them in advance. The languages used at the sum-mer academy are English and German. All participants are provided with free accommodation and food during their stay in Budapest. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses. The results of the summer academy will be presented online.
