Nach den ersten beiden Berliner Symposien "Schwester Reformationen" zur Reformation in Deutschland und in England, die in den Jahren 2009 und 2012 stattgefunden haben, soll nun nach einer längeren, dem Jubiläum von 2017 geschuldeten Pause das auf jenen Symposien geführte fruchtbare Gespräch zwischen den reformationsgeschichtlichen Forschungstraditionen im deutschen und im angelsächsischen Raum fortgesetzt werden, erweitert um die Betrachtung der schottischen Reformation. Der spezielle Gegenstand der von drei Reformationshistorikern aus Berlin, New York und Wuppertal gemeinsam verantworteten Veranstaltung sollen jene Prozesse sein, in denen hier und dort aus der reformatorischen Bewegung Institutionen, von der Reformation geprägte Kirchen wurden. Diese Prozesse, die darin wirksamen Faktoren und vor sich gegangenen Veränderungen sollen in einer konsequent komparatistischen Perspektive betrachtet werden, bevor abschließend die theologischen und historischen Deutungen in den Blick kommen, die die an der Reformation Beteiligten selbst diesem Einschnitt in der Kirchengeschichte gaben.

Following the fruitful collaboration between Reformation historians trained in the German and Anglo-Saxon traditions during the 2009 and 2012 Berlin symposia entitled "Sister Reformations", which compared the Reformations in Germany and in England and examined their relations, a six years' interval was allowed due to the Reformation jubilee of 2017. A third "Sister Reformations" conference will now take place in 2018. On this occasion consideration will also be given to the Reformation in Scotland. Jointly planned by three Reformation Historians in Germany and the US, the symposium will explore the processes by which the various Reformation movements grew and took shape as Reformation in both the Empire and the British Isles. These processes, and a range of factors which shaped them and were shaped by them, will be examined from a consistently comparative perspective. The concluding unit will focus on the theological and historical interpretations which the participants of the Reformation themselves proposed for this fundamental event in the history of the Church.
