Currently, the University of Würzburg's Forum Africa Centre is preparing the publication of an “Introduction to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)” (German title: “Landeskunde Demokratische Republik Kongo”) in late 2020 at Frank & Timme publishers, Berlin. The book will assemble contributions about the DRC’s history, political system, international relations, economy, society and culture. It is aimed at both an academic and a non-academic audience.
We are looking for authors with expertise in one of the following subjects:
- The DRC’s Natural Resources
- The DRC’s Demography
- Precolonial History
- Colonial Era
- Independence and Congo Crisis until 1965
- The Era Mobutu
- War and Conflict since the 1990s: Conflict History
- War and Conflict since the 1990s: Conflict Actors
- War and Conflict since the 1990s: Conflict Resources
- War and Conflict since the 1990s: Conflict Regulation Efforts
- Party System
- Interest and Lobby Groups / NGOs
- Foreign Policy
- External Actors and the DRC
- The DRC in International Organizations
- Infrastructure
- Labor Market
- Education
- Women’s Rights
- Religion
- Languages
- Sport
- Fashion
- Literature
- Art
- Cinema
The individual chapters should not exceed 25,000 characters (including spaces) which amount to about 8 pages. The final publication will be in German; if authors choose to write in English or French, the text will be translated. Applications with a subject proposal and a short CV should be submitted by e-mail by Wednesday, 18 December 2019, to jaz@uni-wuerzburg.de.
