In the project, the dissemination of the new genre opera buffa in Europe between 1740 and 1765 was systematically researched for the first time. This made it possible to examine one of the central developments that led to far-reaching changes in the European opera landscape in the 18th century from different perspectives and with reference to the key concepts of migration, mapping and transformation. The recording and publication of the performance series of Opere buffe in a database not only provided the opportunity for comprehensive quantitative analyses in the project, but it also forms a valuable basis for further research.
595 performance series of 94 opere buffe were recorded, which were performed outside of Italy. The database provides more than a thousand person data, 170 location data (including theatres), 1,214 time data and 748 source data. There are search options with combinable filters, and lists of all entries in the database can also be retrieved, sorted by person-specific functions, opera companies, locations and theatres. The geo-temporal as well as the network visualizations of the data aggregations make it possible to locate performance series of works, persons and opera companies within the European area. In addition, geographical centers of opera buffa performances become just as visible as personal interconnections; persons with a high centrality value (influencers) in the network of the group of singers central to the project are also depicted.
