"Islamic Art in the 21st Century: Conversations"
Zweite jährliche Vortragsreihe der Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and Societies, organisiert und moderiert von Prof. Dr. Wendy Shaw

At the beginning of the twenty-first century, Islamic art has become a nexus of discussion focused on the relationship between Islam, culture, and modernity. On the one hand, museums throughout the world have renovated or instituted major new permanent exhibitions of historical Islamic art. On the other, museums and galleries alike have responded to the vast growth in markets for contemporary art related to Islamic cultures through numerous exhibitions. This has brought broader global attention to the work of artists critically engaging with the legacies of Islam. This lecture series will invite internationally recognized art historians, museum specialists, and artists to discuss their experiences of the complex relationship between the world in which we live and the aesthetic legacies of the Islamic world within contemporary contexts.
