The University of Haifa, Israel, and the Max Planck Institute for the History of Science, Berlin, Germany, are seeking a suitably qualified Post-doctoral fellow interested in undertaking research on themes related to the project “Generating Experimental Knowledge: experimental systems, concept formation and the pivotal role of error.” The project is designed to support a set of complementary studies concerning particular experimental systems, historical developments and systematic conceptual analyses of meta-concepts such as experimental error. Besides the post-doc, the working group will include two doctoral students and an advanced researcher as well as three principal investigators from the host institutions: Prof. Dr. Hans-Joerg Rheinberger and PD Dr. Friedrich Steinle of the MPI, Berlin and Dr. G. Hon of the University of Haifa. The
post-doc will be working at the University of Haifa. The research group will be sharing workshops in Berlin and in Haifa. The fellowship amounts to c. 70.000 ILS p.a. and will be fully financed for three years by the German-Israeli Foundation for Scientific Research and Development (GIF)
(http://www.gifres.org.il/), commencing at the beginning of 2004.

The working language of the group will be English. Fluency in German or Hebrew is not a prerequisite of the application. Women are encouraged to apply. The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. Applicants must have
been awarded their doctorates before commencing the fellowship and be no further than five years beyond their Ph.D.s at the time of application.
